This is the story of a passion. The story of fathers and sons passing on collections and interests. Of a global watch brand and its adaptation through design, communication and music. The tale takes us to Magliano Sabina, in the province of Rieti. Mattia Iacobelli has a great love for watches - it began when he was a small child. His father was a Swatch collector, and with time, he began to learn their names, to imprint their details and colours on his memory, to study the models, the years of production and the various technical features. An interest that has never waned. After many years in fact, Mattia has applied his professional skills as an Art Digital Director in the service of his love for watch straps and clock faces. From this, the project to create a series of digitally animated illustrations was born, with the aim of celebrating Swatch, the popular Swiss wrist watch brand. Over the years, the Swiss company has played with shape, colours and materials to make their products unique, beyond a simple instrument to measure time, a way to communicate and a collector’s item. Mattia’s three mini clips use this pop nature and retrace the brand’s history by putting the clock back to the 80s, 90s and the early 2000s. The most iconic models of the label display themselves on the rhythm of the music that was being played on the radio during these decades. “I have recreated models through vector graphics using the Illustrator software, then I animated them with After Effects, then moving on to the editing and sound”, explains Mattia. “Finally, I added a pinch of myself as a child, that even today is bewitched by the ticking of watches”.
