It all started with Tito Petrocchi, founder of the company, who built, in his workshop, shoes for movie stars, masters of art and music, high fashion creators, entrepreneurs and aristocrats. The secret of such a success was explained and is still explained today, with few words: simplicity, authentic elegance, good taste and respect for traditional craftsmanship. And that led to his style the international recognition of the Gold Medal at the exhibition in Munich in 1956. The only exceptions to the classic style were heels, like that of the shoes worn by Silvana Mangano in the famous "mambo" of the homonym movie.
The construction of a shoe is a very complex operation that takes place by performing a series of handmade operations. It starts with taking the measurements of both feet, marking on the paper the irregularities. On this measure the wooden forms are built and modified according to the characteristics of the foot. This is one of the most important moments on which the final result depends. In a second moment, the paper pattern is made on which the leather chosen by the customer is cut. The leather is sewn together to form the upper. Thus we move on to the construction of the shoe through the assembly of the upper to the leather sole.
The shoes are sewn in Guàrdolo (leather strip that is inserted by reinforcement between the sole and the upper of the shoe.) Simple and inverted guàrdolo, with or without double sole, finally the heel is made entirely of leather. The shoes are ready and can be removed from the form of wood on which they were built, but then, a few days of "rest" are needed to ensure that everything fits perfectly.
There are two lines of footwear: a ready-to-wear line with ready-made models or to be ordered for standard Italian numbers (from 39 to 46) and in a bespoke line. In both cases, the customer can choose between the various models, the type of leather, the height and the thickness of the background.
The Calzoleria Petrocchi is renowned for the use of carefully selected leathers, such as freudenberg calves, natural-looking French calfs, lanilina, or more precious exotic leathers like crocodile, ostrich, python and lizards. For the sole, the midsole and the heel is used, exclusively, only real natural leather.
