Art transforms Rome's green waste containers
With the GAU project, Urban Galleroies in Centocelle, a buonch of famous artists interpret the theme of rebirth on bottle bank for collecting and recycling glass.
A neighborhood on the outskirts of Rome, forty bottle banks, twenty artists: these are the ingredients of GAU, the new project that challenges the urban redevelopment that combines street art and waste containers and that has involved Solo, Diamond, NapalNaps, Mauro Sgarbi, DesX, Krayon, Alessandra Carloni, Humanely in the Balance, Point Eyes (Yest + Er Pinto), Paolo Colasanti Gojo, Eliseo Sonnino, Ironmould, Karma Factory (Wuarky + Nemea Valerio Paolucci), Italian street artists who are very active on our territory.
Under the coordination of writer Paolo Colasanti, aka Gojo, waste containers were painted by street artists, so they can appear simultaneously in several points of the Centocelle district. The idea stems from a reflection on the visual identity of cities and intends to relaunch the theme of creative environmental development in an original way. Spider man, snakes and dragons color the waste containers importing an urban regeneration model that somehow inspire beauty and functionality within the city suburbs.
The event is part of the program of Contemporaneamente Roma 2018, promoted by the Municipality of Rome - Department for Cultural Growth and in collaboration with SIAE, and is managed by Progetto Goldstein, whose purpose is to propose "a strategy aimed at promoting urban art and at the same time enhancing the city's heritage", referring to the famous model of the Galeria de Arte Urbana (GAU) of Lisbon.
The waste containers which have undergone a regeneration process were forty. The Roman street artists have thus transformed the bottle banks into real urban furnishings through graffiti, spray cans and brush strokes of color, thus making the garbage collectors works of art that give a touch of color to the streets of the neighborhood, offering unique and free works of art in Centocelle to its inhabitants.
