WEGIL was born
The Casa della Gioventù del Littorio in Trastevere, built by Luigi Moretti, had been designed since 1933 and inaugurated in 1937. The building had to offer rooms and equipment for the education and political-military and sport preparation, as well as healthcare and social care for young people. WEGIL returned to the citizens on December 8th, in conjunction with the exhibition 'Leggere' by Steve McCurry (40 photographs and images of the well-known American artist); this event was a great success.
The reopening of the building – managed by regional company LAZIOcrea - has been possible thanks to the opportunity offered by Art Bonus, an innovative system of partnership between public and private returns to some places of great historical and artistic appeal a fruition public. The imposing building consists of two buildings divided over several floors. On the ground floor there are the spaces dedicated to cultural animation with events, exhibitions, conferences and meetings. The mezzanine floor has been dedicated to food and wine and to reading and study, while, on the first floor, there are impressive and large exhibition spaces. The basement will permanently host the Gian Maria Volontè School of Cinematographic Art, while on the fourth and fifth floors there will be a permanent exhibition dedicated to the works of the architect Luigi Moretti.
WEGIL is a multi-purpose and creative cultural space, a reference point for Regione Lazio, to represent the excellence of the territory in the cultural, tourist and food and wine fields, through collaboration with Associations, Third Sector, Universities, Research Institutions and companies.
