Valentina Nebolini, born in 1988, has developed a pilot project for the creation of a portal to promote the superior quality of Italian designed textiles. At present, the realisation of this project is yet to be completed. “Contextu” was born in 2014 from a PhD and in its original form it was aimed at the fashion industry, but it is actually quite versatile and could be applied to many craftsmanship and creativity sectors. The basic format is the development of a web portal that will become a consultation and reference point for either textile industry productions or creative talents in the fashion industry.
A sort of multimedia catalogue where companies can offer a textile process or innovation, which can then be examined by a scientific panel, with the aid of various evaluation tools, to assess its suitability. The outcome is a selection of companies that develop a strong sense of local identity, and offer high quality materials, strictly made in Italy and produced with an eco-friendly process. “Contextu” is, on the one hand, a promotion tool for the best textile companies in Italy, and on the other, it becomes a point of reference for end users, such as creative talents in the fashion industry, who can then access a list of certified suppliers, by consulting the database. In this way, the project promotes a virtuous circle, giving companies and creatives the opportunity to develop new ideas, with a production process always eco-friendly and entirely based in Italy.
