Follow the wood
An ancient historic town 15 Km far from Viterbo, near Lake Bolsena and the fortress of the Popes, a place where handicraft and fine wine are its main trademarks. Montefiascone is a riot of different elements that come together when you visit it. And one of these is craft that here lives for generations thanks to the passion and work from father to son using simple but at the same time precious materials.
Using wood for giving life to animals
As to creativity you cannot miss the wooden Zoo, right in the centre of Montefiascone. 30 years ago a group of craftmen started to create wooden animals of any species. The zoo is located in Corso Cavour 41, and animals are all made in fir. Even if we are not in the tale of Pinocchio, this laboratory is managed by several 'master Geppettos' who are masterfully able to shape a simple piece of wood. The result? Animals of all kinds and forms, owls and cats among the most popular. Animals as used as objects as well as a piece of decoration. Cabinets, chairs, dressers and more. If you love the wildlife kingdom you can not miss this place.
Family traditions at the craft service
Talking about wood, but on the other side of the town, on Via Cassia 096, is the Zeppa carpentry. Here, from furnishings to various objects, from animals to gorgeous Pinocchios, many pieces of art take form thanks to the skillful hands of two brothers who deal every day with wood in this area on the borders with Umbria and Tuscany.
The thousand faces of ceramics
If you prefer ceramics to wood just go head to via Poggio della Frusta 70, on the SS Cassia Nord, quite near a short distance from this town, and join a place where ceramics and fantasy will not disappoint you. Terra e colore is the name of the workshop developed thank to the twenty year experience of Gianfranco Riti, who has been able to successfully combine industrial tile with hand decoration (Ceramica Tacconi). The result tiles, strips, objects and lighting, all strictly made and decorated by hand. And there's more; in order to give new life to such an ancient art, Terra e Colore organizes workshops and targeted courses, always paying attention to the origins of this decorative material.
