Turin. Following last year's success, the international festival dedicated to the art of animated gifs, theGifer, will be held the second edition of the event, which will take place next November during Artissima's week, where many new events will be launched. Starting from the locations, this year will be the Galleria Sabauda and the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, side by side with the Cinema Massimo - National Museum of Cinema, which will always host the screenings of the works in the competition and the prizes. The gifs will come alongside the paintings of the collection, creating a stimulating dialogue between past and present.
And it is from what has been described in part by the theme of the 2017 festival, pastfuture. Animated gifs, which by their very nature represent a creative cross-platform platform at the time level - heirs of pre-cinema experiments - have come back to the fore after two decades of their invention - will thus be a vehicle for comparing contemporary languages and ancient suggestions.
The heart of the event, as always, remains the participation call, a call open until August 30 that invites all artists who want to try the gif format to send their creations. The works will be uploaded to www.thegifer.org and will be selected by the jury of experts.
The works examined for participation in the festival must be the original and exclusive property of the artist or group. They must be presented in gif format and must not exceed 2 MB. Each artist can only have one gif. Then be exhibited during the November Turin festival. Among them, the award winners will be selected, theGIFER Award, which includes a trophy and a personal exhibition for the winner or artist at the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation; And theGIFER Social, which will be assigned by Facebook users like on the page dedicated to the festival, will also receive other awards from the festival partners and sponsors.
