Founded in 2010, Teatro KappaO’s main activities are theatrical productions and laboratories. The special research work done by the association emerges in “Opera senza corpo – Insania della radice” (Works without a body – Root’s madness), as the director Gianni Tudino tells us: «There are six people on the stage, one professional actor and 5 novices. By including some students who did a two-year laboratory project with us — yes, we allowed ourselves the luxury of a production 2 years long – we started a path that we often travel along».
Theatre is continuous comparison. «Often and willingly professionals - continues Gianni – find themselves in difficulty when communicating with novices, because they cannot count on technique, on their own working tools, on their own professional certainties. I want to hide technique as much as possible; I want to drag actors as far as possible from their “comfort zone”. In these two worlds, I am looking for a different space, that doesn’t belong to either. An unexplored territory, where there is a discovery for everyone».
Tudino, «half linked to “Third Theatre philosophy” and half visionary», encourages continuous dialogue between prose and body language, giving theatre the same importance as words.
«We never start with a defined play, we define it as we go along, writing the scenes, starting with a physical score. Then we let the original text in, usually using fragments of it, like in the case of “Macbeth”, where we went looking for all the various facets in there».
Shakespeare’s work becomes a mental room that the public leaves without any certainties.
«Are the events “real”? Or did the murders exist only in Macbeth’s mind? That is not the sense of the story. What happens within his obsession is real and he experiences it as such».
This mixing of roles and certainties, is the typicality of Teatro KappaO.
Teatro KappaO helds also educational-theatre activities in primary and secondary schools, realising laboratories and shows
