The international harpsichord maker of Lazio
In the charming village of San Vito, located in the municipality of Canepina (Viterbo), Andrea Di Maio lives and works. The artist, a pearl of local craft, has a growing international hit due to his great passion: the harpsichord. His creations are the result of continuous study, begun years ago at the International Violin Making School. Since then he has ranged from tuning to restoration of all types of harpsichord, until an accurate pictorial decoration.
Each work of art, from classical harpsichord to smaller virginal, is manually operated and each creation is a high quality rare example, so that the cymbals by Di Maio are required all over the world. His lab is literally surrounded by chestnut trees of Canepina and very close to the Natural Reserve of Lake Vico, a charming location at the foot of the Cimini mountains.
The artist mainly uses ebony, but also poplar, walnut, cypress and lime, useful to make instruments by drawing inspiration from European classical school but distinguishing from it with a strong touch of originality and giving splendour to the most used tool in the musical practices of XVII and XIII centuries.
