Scuola Internazionale di Comics

The international school of Comics has been established in 1979 by the eclectic designer Dino Caterini, that is the actual general manager. During the years the school has performed depth tasks at social and educational levels, by proposing courses in digital, figurative, graphic and literary arts. It has put effort into social issues by supporting cultural initiatives, no-profit organizations and by securing an alliance with other educational organizations at international level.

The study method at Comics focuses on higher education and professional qualification: all the programs are updated as concerns specific fields and professional teaching. As for training sessions, students can count on audio-visual support and direct comparison with teachers. There are theoretical and practical lessons: students can improve their results with homework, so they can implement the techniques learnt during the sessions and - at the end of the course – they’ll be involved in scheduled exams.

The duration of courses is variable and there is limited number of students for every time slot: this is to guarantee a direct and continuous confrontation between students and teachers. At the end of the course, thanks to the acquired skills, students will have more occupational chances since they are experts in the fields of graphical arts and publishing at international level. Here there is a wide selection of masters and seminars pertaining to digital, advertising and comics sectors. A lot of former students work in publishing sector: 60% of Italian authors attended the international school of Comics.

Since 1979 Comics has considerably expanded worldwide. Now there are branches in many cities: Rome, Florence, Jesi, Pescara, Turin, Padua, Reggio Emilia, Brescia, Naples and Chicago. The school promotes students’ work by organizing exhibitions and events. During the years Comics has launched several projects to support animal-right, environmental and humanitarian associations, such as: UNICEF, Emergency, WWF, L.A.V. Lega Anti Vivisezione, AVIS, Amnesty International, Legambiente, AIL – Associazione Italiana contro le Leucemie-Linfomi e Mieloma, Animalisti Italiani and Croce Blu.
