Sara Carnimeo developed this editorial project as part of her thesis during her years of study at the IED (European Institute of Design), where she attended the Visual Communication and Graphics course. She has then seen it come to fruition, be printed and distributed, while she was an apprentice at the publishers Armando Curcio Editore, which had originally proposed the idea to the IED students. The Jules Verne book, Viaggio al centro della Terra is over 150 years old, but continues to set fire to the imagination of possible worldsand epic adventures. And it is a real work of imagination that Sara has made, choosing images created in collage, a technique that allows an enormous head to be attached to a minuscule body, to have a man fly alongside a bird, or to let the protagonists rest at the bottom of the sea. Inventive pictures, created with clippings, juxtaposition and image overlays, fantastical scenes that provide a backdrop for the adventures of Otto Lidenbrock and his nephew Alex. The pictures, together with short quotations from the text, accompany the reader with surreal but harmonious views. The book, as originally requested by the publishers from the students, had to be in large format and with a small print run, but then it has become, through its production, a trial issue for a series of great classics reprints. Sara Carnimeo worked for various graphic design agencies, using her abilities in all kinds of projects. But her real vocation, discovered after her years in secondary school, is to work in page layout andgraphics for publishing. And also to this end she is currently opening her own graphics studio in Latina.
