Far from the ways of thinking of the disposable products market and with the aim of defending the quality of Italian production, the “Pica” brand was invented in Fondi, in 2015. The name cames from the union of the first two syllables of the creator’s first and second names, Piera Catena, a young designer who trained at the IED (European Institute of Design) in Rome. In the same year of its birth, the “Pica” project became part of “Made in Italy Corner”, for its attention to creation and design phases of bags and accessories, and for its use of high quality materials, mostly leather, specifically chosen by the designer, who turns only to Italian suppliers. The first collection was exhibited at fashion shows and national industry events, organised to encourage a return to the handmade roots of Made in Italy, which reached their apex in the 1950s and 1960s, seemingly immune to the mass, conforming production of the American market. Piera Catena focused her research on materials and on the finishing of details, favouring basic lines and refined geometric cuts. She also dealt with distribution, with the aim of guaranteeing to her customers an original design for every single object: unique pieces with marked characters, entirely handcrafted, and which evokes the elegance of times gone by. Currently, “Pica” has just completed its second collection, inspired by the primitive, geometric shapes of necklaces worn by warriors from the ancient Mayan civilisation. The designer dreams of developing the brand without having to make compromises, maintaining faith in her original choices: to present a distinctive, quality collection, every year.
