Small but effective | the Nikon competition for microscopic images has begun

The stars of the Nikon Small World Competition are images captured through an optical microscope. This international competition will award the most striking images from any part of the world and using any type of optical microscope, not necessarily by Nikon. The theme is free and it will be possible to use any microscope technique, such as polarized light, fluorescence, interference contrast, mixed techniques and so on.

The competition has two categories: Microphotography and Motion, hence, not just photos but also videos created with an optical microscope. The first prize for both sections will be $3,000 to buy Nikon equipment. Not just money, but also visibility: the twenty best photographs will be shown at various exhibitions in the USA and Canada.

To take part in this historic competition, created in 1975, users must register on the site www.nikonsmallworld.com, and upload their photos or videos by 30 April 2016. The works will be evaluated by a jury of independent experts, recognized as bona fide authorities in the fields of photography and microphotography. The assessment criteria look at originality, information content, technical skill and overall visual impact.
