Opificio Roma Europa
Close to the Aurelian Walls and the Tiber one of the main streets of Rome that connects the city to the sea of Ostia takes its name: the Via Ostiense which gives its name to the district of the same name. It is here that goods from the river arrived in Rome from all over the world and where the skeletons and vestiges of the huge industrial structures still dominate the landscape.
And this typical soul of mingling of ports is still very much alive in this area in full ferment, inhabited and animated by the power and creativity of young artists, poets, students, base and springboard for a world still largely to be designed and built. And it is precisely here that we find the Opificio Romaeuropa, headquarters of the Romaeuropa Foundation. The Opificio, built at the beginning of the twentieth century, was the seat of Angelo Sonnino & C. Wool was processed on an industrial level.
Today, thanks to the work of architects Piersandro Libardi and Felice Andrea, it has become an airy space of volumes modulated by glass, white, metal. The term Opificio indicates craftsmanship and artistic inventiveness. Not only the work, but also the skill of the masters in creating and communicating their art, with different industriousness. Entirely covered by wi-fi, this old converted factory is a structure capable of representing the comparison between new digital cultures and the interaction between different forms of creation and audio-visual communication: from contemporary art to performing and installations of digital arts.
The space, bright and imposing, is structured in modular spaces, adaptable to every need both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. The structure lends itself to be an ideal location for performances, projections, meetings, conferences, events, workshops, cinematographic shots. The space, made bright by imposing windows, has a total extension of 1,500 square meters in total distributed on two levels, an outdoor space and is able to accommodate an audience of about 100 people and 200 standing places.
An open space, which favors public access and participation, offering intersections of artistic experiences and declining the imagination of Romaeuropa in a place with a strong contemporary flavor. The structure has a completely darkened multifunctional space of about 200 square meters with a projection screen, projector and sound, complete with audio video direction and the possibility of using services and kitchen for logistics.
