A new FabLab in Rieti
The Regional FabLabs networks gets wider with the opening of the new FabLab located in Rieti within the Consortium for Core Industrialization of Rieti-Cittaducale.
The President of the Region, Nicola Zingaretti, Guido Fabiani, Regional Councillor for Economic Development and Lidia Ravera, Regional Councillor for Culture attended the opening of the Active Area in Rieti. Through the Network of Active Spaces, the Region aims at reviving and restructuring the network of regional incubators to build a hubs network of social innovation. Through this network the Region supports professional training, development and innovation, culture and youth and talent promotion. The Regional Council has allocated 10 million for the development of the Active Space network. Furthermore 2.4 million euros have been allocated for the activities of the regional FabLabs.
The new FabLab of Rieti is completely integrated with the Active Space services with the business incubator: 9 rooms, each one with a computer network, possibility of telephone connections and electrical system and the Talent Working, a stimulating environment where you can compare daily with tutors, mentors and coaches. Within the creative Rieti FabLab, creative professionals will have all the facilities and resources to implement and develop their ideas: 1 laser cutter (for metals); 1 CO2 Laser Cut (wood, plexiglass); 1 CNC milling machine; 1 printing and cutting plotter; a 3D FDM printer (bioplastic filament); a 3D SLA printer (resin material); 2 Work Station equipped with graphic tablet; the Oculus Rift virtual reality; a work bench with a set of tools for electronic processing; multimedia whiteboard touch screen and a video conference Monitor.
In each regional FabLab there are 3 different working areas: the Interactive Lab (for image capture and video animation, graphics, industrial design, 3D modeling); the Digital Lab (dedicated to the development of objects); the Training Lab (for the provision of training courses, workshops, tutorials and much more). To date, the FabLab are located in five different venues, each one with its own vocation: Rome Casilina, specializing in the creative industry; Bracciano, specializing in food and agriculture area; Viterbo, specializing in the cultural industry; Latina, workshop on multidisciplinary sectors; last but not least Rieti, dedicated to innovative projects in electronics, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Over the last year, regional FabLab have registrated the following numbers: 1,847 participants; 262 workshops; 10,718 visitors; 182 prototyping projects.
