MEXICAN STANDOFF STUDIO
A film, a videogame, a communication tool: it is difficult to give it a precise definition.
Experience is all these things together, and something else too: it is, in fact, an experience.
Born 2 years ago as a simple communication and promotion tool for the audiovisual production activity of Mexican Standoff Studio, Experience has expanded to become a stand-alone product.
In the imaginary town of Dropp, that mixes typical Western-style elements with ones from fantasy, a story develops, within which the users can influence the course of events and be rewarded by earning points. All this on the website and on social network platforms that are the universe where users interact, using the same dynamics as role-play games like Dungeons and Dragons.
The mind behind the project is Daniele Bellucci, 30 years old, a degree in directing from DAMS and a few years experience as a freelance operator and editor. He then reached his turning point. He made a film, Left 4 dead (inspired by the videogame of the same name) that collected 4000 dollars in donation on the Internet. Thanks to word of mouth, he created a community of more than 500,000 users.
He then founded Mexican Standoff Studio together with his colleague Emanuela Novelli, who deals with the managerial and organisational aspects of the firm.
Actually, when he was a child, he wanted to be a manager more than a director, and this desire to be free and independent in his work, and to be able to work on a project that he truly loves, drove him to start his own company.
A mentality that doesn’t even consider the idea of “permanent employment”, convinced that he will have (and already has) enormous satisfaction and will be rewarded for all the sacrifices he has made. Including the sacrifices made by his parents, who encouraged his enthusiasm and supported his choices. «That is why – he says convinced – I am deeply grateful to them».
The story has been written by Chiara Sfregola, writer.
