Scomodo (thorny translator’s note) is a critical and independent monthly newspaper, born in August 2016 thanks to several students attending universities and high schools. The periodical, exclusively in paperwork, is the result of the joint work done by an editorial staff composed of 200 girls and boys: 60 pages, 7500 free distribution copies without advertising. The newspaper is distributed in more than 120 places such as schools, universities and "Thorny Points", or places of culture and aggregation throughout the Roman territory and elsewhere. Scomodo is an independent magazine created by students and dealing with treatise and analysis of the surrounding reality. The released issues so far - the next one is scheduled for June - had the honour of being published with covers designed by: Zero Calcare, Altan, Vauro, Makkok, A.
Scomodo is far from the mass media information as from movement newspapers and, thanks to this, it is free to provide a thorny treatment of facts, a vision that can offer an alternative reading of reality.
To do this, it is crucial for them to remain independent and free from any economic and political dynamics. Scomodo is not just a newspaper: the editorial has become a transversal project - as culture must be – by giving space to young artists of all disciplines. Notti Scomode (Thorny Nights, translator’s note) were born to finance the newspaper. They’re not just moments of aggregation, but real cultural manifestations: as for the location of the Notti Scomode the editorial staff choose abandoned spaces by making them live for one night, by restoring the extraordinary places of Rome, potentially invaluable to citizens but neglected by institutions. It is demonstration creating a new entertainment model with the aim of combining leisure and sociality with culture in all its forms, by penetrating transversely into the community. The places of the Notti Scomode are announced shortly before the event: uncomfortable places to wake up from cultural torpor a city that has in the editorial staff of the newspaper an endowment of girls and boys who still believe in the social value of culture. Up until now, 3 Notti Scomode have been organized, the next one is scheduled for May. In addition to this, since few weeks, a crowfunding campaign has been launched and supported by a beautiful video with the appearance of, among others, Vauro, Erri De Luca, Paola Concia.
