For dance enthusiasts the Girasole Art Center by Simone Barraco and Dora D’Agostino, in collaboration with the master Alfio Longo, organizes workshops for folk dance in central and southern Italy. The Course of Popular Dances of Central and Southern Italy aims at safeguarding and transmitting the varied and complex intangible and demo-ethno-anthropological cultural heritage that characterizes the vast geographical area of southern Italy. In this case, among the intended purposes of the course, there is the will to transmit to the children the teaching of the main Tarantellas of Southern Italy, taking as a reference model the popular dance as a moment of high socio-cultural aggregation between individuals of different socio-cultural backgrounds ethnographic.

The dances proposed are the tarantellas of central and southern Italy such as the Pizzica (Puglia - lower Salento), the Tammurriata (Campania - Agro-Nocerino-Sarnese style), the Montemaranese (Campania - Alta Irpinia), the Contraddanza (Sicily) and the Scottish salentino.
The course will be held by master Alfio Longo, a specialized dancer, active in the field of Popular Dances of Central and Southern Italy for over ten years. He approaches the world of Southern Traditions under the guidance of Roberta Parravano and Antonella Potenziani. He deepens with the latter the study of the dances, becoming part of the Sciarabballo Company, perfecting his own training process through the frequent attendance of Internships, Courses and cultural events, related to the protection of the demo-ethno-anthropological traditions, alongside the theoretical study of dance, learned and interpreted directly on site (Lazio, Puglia, Campania, Calabria, Sicily). From 2013 he began to collaborate with the Totemtanz - Rome School of Music - as Teacher and Responsible for the organization of Courses and Internships throughout the national territory. She is the curator of popular dance courses in Lazio and outside the region.
