Milan Design Week
Architects, designers and furniture lovers get ready: the Salone Internazionale del Mobile is coming back. Fuorisalone 2016 will take place in Milan from 12th to 17th April, 2016, when the whole city will host thousands of design-related events. This 55th edition of the event announces dizzying numbers: over 1,300 exhibitors, almost 150,000 sqm of exhibition spaces and 30% of foreign companies attending the event.
Are you ready to see giant and colourful chandeliers in the streets of downtown, huge tulips about to pop up at every corner, fake enchanted meadows and much more? Then you are ready for the event. In conjunction with the Salone del Mobile, other major trade shows are running in April such as xLux, dedicated to luxury furniture with brands for the likes of Ferré, Fendi, Roberto Cavalli and Lamborghini, EuroCucina (International Kitchen Furniture Exhibition) and International Bathroom Exhibition in even editions (like 2016). The commercial trade shows were joined in 1998 by the SaloneSatellite, an exhibition aiming at providing a showcase for young designers from all over the world and to facilitate their encounter with the most important manufacturers exhibiting at the Salone. In the 2016 edition the SaloneSatellite will once again look beyond with a theme spurring its participants to explore the relationship between science, materials and design. “New materials, new design” is the theme of the nineteenth edition of the event and, as every year, a Selection Board composed by internationally known design and communication players will shortlist 700 participants, including many international design schools. Over 10,000 participants and 270 design schools have been involved in these years.
This 55th edition runs along with three important collateral events dedicated to the concepts of living, classic furnishing and architectural finishings respectively; event schedule includes the exhibition "Rooms. Other philosophies of living ", which will focus on interior design with 11 environments designed by great personalities of design, each one with his personal vision on the future of housing; the exhibition "Before Design: Classic" and last but not least, the exhibition "Space & interiors" in The Mall Porta Nuova organized by MADE expo and Brera Design District, as well as a short film signed by Matteo Garrone. This 55th edition is completely sold out yet again, reaffirming its position as the leading forum for ideas, creativity, innovation and technology for businesses, operators and visitors, showcasing the latest home living styles through advanced design trends.
