Culture defeats criminality
Can a place symbol of crime become a center for culture? This is exactly what is happening at the gates of Rome, where a former farmhouse confiscated from the Magliana gang will soon turn into one of the largest libraries of the whole city. It is not true then that evil cannot turn into something positive. Everything with time can take a new path, such as when you turn the page and you are in front of a white space to write a new story.
From criminal place to cultural centre
As in a contemporary tale, a criminal house becomes a new cultural centre in one of the most populated suburbs of the capital, Finocchio. On the Collina della Pace (the Hill of Peace) this center previously belonged to the Magliana gang will soon open the doors; a huge space of 1,500 square meters that underwent a urban and landscape redevelopment will become a place for books, conferences, meetings and projections.
Finocchio, the new center for literature
The added value is to open a library with lots of multi-functional spaces in a suburb populated by many young people. A place capable of becoming a new meeting point within a park dedicated to Peppino Impastato, one of the many martyrs of the fight against the Mafia. And for those who prefer books to movies will be spoiled for choice: the new structure will offer 5,000 movies and music files, as well as a conference room and exhibition space for new emerging creative trends.
