Images from the Global South: Cinema
The University Association for Cooperation and Development promotes for over twenty years the Film festival Pictures from the Global South - G.A.I.A (Genres, Hospitality, Intercultura, Environments).
The Festival, in accordance with its itinerant nature, is held in Viterbo, in the cinema Film Trento, former Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tuscia and ARCI of Viterbo.
The "Images of the World" will also reach some municipalities of Bio - Distretto della Via Amerina e delle Forre, involving the town of Civita Castellana as part of the Festival Civitonica together with the town of Calcata.
After the first part of the review started in April with the film Fuocoammare by Gianfranco Rosi, the 'appointment with the winter film has been launched in November with Liberami by Federica Di Giacomo.
The festival, now at its XXII edition, presents an interesting selection of films, short films and documentaries addressing important social issues and focuses the attention on cultural diversity and marginal realities, promoting an independent film production often out from circuits of large retailers.
This year the festival tackles themes such as access to land for small farmers, sexual choices, gender issues, the reception of migrants, climate change and loss of biodiversity.
Since the first editions, the main objective of the event was to encourage the public to a greater awareness and critical consciousness on certain issues, encouraging the search for new languages.
The films proposed are of African, Asian filmmakers, South American and Italian and European authors and highlight the need for dialogue and intercultural exchange.
Thanks to the spread of these works, if they discover the freshness and they promote the artistic value and content.
The exhibition is organized with the support of the Culture and Youth Policy of the Lazio Region, thanks to the 2016 call for the promotion and enhancement of the audiovisual heritage.
As in previous editions, this year the festival has included in its programming an audiovisual production workshop.
The workshop will provide the basic elements of knowledge for the realization of a short documentary will be directed to 5 students at the University of Tuscia and 5 persons detained.
AUCS proposes and implements international and decentralized cooperation projects, training and environmental education workshops, global citizenship, peace and the critical consumption in order to support rural communities and peasant movements in the Global South, to fight and undermine stereotypes and prejudices.
