THE WORLD OF UNTERWELT
A workshop in the historical town of Rome, but also a place for meeting and an incubator for ideas and projects. That’s Unterwelt, an avant-garde lab where you can project, build/create, implement and test, to finally divulge. Despite the name, which in German means “underground world”, Unterwelt is an open space where everyone shall feel free to be creative or to look at things from new viewpoints. Unterwelt is indeed something new, which arises from the combination between techniques and technologies with arts and craftsmanship. It’s the world inside things and under the soil. It’s the enchanted world under the surface of things, thus underground.
Underwelt is a group of makers in a workshop which has been transformed into an incubator of tendencies. Here different experts work together, create and share ideas: a freelance architect, a photographer, a researcher, an engineer and an “old-style expert in electronics”. Technology, arts and craftsmanship are all combined together to develop 360° projects. In Unterwelt it’s up to people, who give life to this space and develop projects. Everyone can combine, overlap, blend, amaze, amuse, serve, enable, open, disassemble, mix, re-assemble. Unterwelt is a place for makers, where 3D printers, vertical plotters, 3D scanners are available to creative minds.
A peculiar device, which is made available, is Ugo, an open source home automation system with vocal recognition technology. Ugo is one the flagships of this hub located in the Trastevere area. Another flagship is the vertical plotter, a robot with an artistic soul able to make big-sized drawings on vertical walls by using a simple marker pen.
