An introspective competition | The Manuel Rivera - Ortiz Foundation competition is an opportunity to investigate exploited and marginalized communities

For all videomakers and photographers whether professionals or budding from any part of the world, the Manuel Rivera - Ortiz Foundation is organizing a competition that will touch everyone's conscience. The subject is human suffering and conflicts, the exploitation of lands and peoples, the forgotten communities and those devastated by war, poverty, hunger and illness.

The foundation will award two prizes worth $5,000: to the best ongoing photographic project and the best film/documentary already completed. In the first case, entrants take part by submitting a photographic portfolio containing a representative sample of their documentary work, with proposals that can also be ongoing projects. As for films, these should be from 10 to 30 minutes in duration, and produced during the two years before 31 March 2016.

Ever faithful to reality

The plot must always be related to reality and never cross over into fiction. The film must feature real people and not actors portraying someone else; while the dialogues and narration can be in any language with English subtitles. Instead, the photographic projects will be selected by a jury of professionals involved in documentary photography.
