The FabLab network, by now to be found all over the world, began back in 2004 and was the brainchild of a professor at the prestigious MIT University of Boston, USA: Neil Gershenfeld. Behind his insight was the conviction that the use of new technologies linked to the Knowledge Economy, such as 3D printing, could constitute the basis for a third industrial revolution. A revolution destined to redefine the relationships between consumers and producers, designers and makers, and bolster local economies with the birth of new makers and distributors locally. By now FabLabs are a point of reference for the whole Digital Fabrication movement since, as well as providing premises and support for makers including machines, they offer a global network to share know-how and foster the development of expertise. Inside a FabLab, courses are organized to increase ability in the use of the technologies available, while an ideal space is offered for both private citizens and local companies to create prototypes.
Everything made in a FabLab can be easily shared, can receive help during development from other makers, and arouse the interest of other people to come up with innovative startups. FabLab Frosinone is an open space devoted to education, experimentation and the fabrication of innovative ideas. To realize one's ideas using Digital Fabrication, shared expertise and social innovation. FabLab Frosinone was created by a motivated, mixed group of curious individuals, all from the Ciociara area. Architects, designers, engineers, and programmers with international backgrounds, but united by a passion for research and fascinated with the incredible ability of the FabLab network to produce knowledge and experiments that can be applied both locally and globally. In 2014, an agreement was signed between FabLab Frosinone, the Chamber of Commerce of Frosinone, and Aspiin which currently houses the lab at its training facility.
The main aim of FabLab Frosinone – Garden Workshops is to build up a community of people and innovative ideas. A compact group and a space to design, learn, and teach to reconsider a different future from a fresh standpoint. FabLab Frosionone is open to anyone who has ideas to put into practice. The FabLab focuses on 3 main areas: training, a fast prototyping service with the use of digital equipment, and the development of in-house ideas and projects. All areas are open to citizens, professionals, artisans and local companies as well as schools in the Province of Frosinone.
