The first edition of 'Design for Next Lazio' has been launched, a project of Lazio Innova that caters to businesses from Lazio, made in partnership with La Sapienza - University of Rome (Department of Planning, Design, Technology Architecture), ISIA (Higher Institute for Industry and the Arts), the IED (European Institute of Design), the Quasar, RUFA (Rome University of fine Arts), the ADI (Association of Industrial Design), the OAR ((order of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservationists in Rome and province).

The initiative aims to involve businesses in Lazio, both consolidated or startups, in a process of co-design for the development of new products and processes.

There are three thematic areas involved and recognized as strategic:

Process design and product for Industry 4.0: innovation and industrial technological processes as a strategy for the modernization of the production system of the territory and the creation of new businesses;

Design and Smart City: the integration of products, systems and technologies implemented with clouding for social innovation and shared territories (areas suburban-city-metropolis) foods that the ratio of "smart cities" and "smart citizens" and simplifying the transition from a top-down planning, a tuned to the needs of the citizen;

Design for the Cultural Heritage: preservation, promotion, access to and use of cultural heritage of the territory in a sustainable, even with the help of digital and communication tools.

The path to co-design will be developed in three phases. The first phase consists of 4 workshops (lasting 2 days) for each of the thematic fields, which will be held in the period from February to March 2017. Participants in the meetings of the companies selected through this call who will be working with a team for innovation It composed of students, designers and professionals selected by ADI and selected architects dall'OAR. The objective of the first phase is to develop one or more innovative concept, in line with the three areas outlined above, through genuine development opportunities for the company involved in the activity of co-design.

The second phase involves the construction of an exhibition at the end of which a specially constituted Jury will evaluate and award the best concept which will be admitted to the next stage, at least one for each category. This phase ends with the participation in the exhibition of concept that will take place during the Roman edition of the International Conference EAD 'Design for Next' promoted by Sapienza University of Rome with the support of Lazio Innova (Rome, 12-14 April 2017) .

The third phase will focus on the development of the selected concept for the creation of prototypes. The participating companies will have the innovation Commercial Properties developed while the Team of Experts, Students and Designers will be recognized with copyright in accordance with applicable laws.


Both consolidated companies or start-ups operating in the Lazio region can participate in the Call. Each company will be able to apply for a single field by registering and filling out the registration form at this link until 20 January 2017.
