COMUNICACITY – YES I CODE
Looking for information on a possible promoter of public calls in Cassino, I discover that the last time it gave any news was 22 February 2017, to announce the start of the San Benedetto festival. So I discover two other things: that Internet is a real blessing and that, probably, the young man I spoke to on the telephone was given his name as a tribute to the patron saint of the city he lives in. I did this simple search as I wondered how municipal administrations used to give out information before the cooperative “Yes I Code”, of which Benedetto Pacitto is a part, filled a communication and market gap. There was indeed no immediate communication system for getting in touch with local administrations, while now smartphones, with which our conversation took place, are a perfect instrument for such communication. The result is “ComunicaCity”, an app for mobile devices by means of which administrations can send to citizens and tourists announcements, images, videos and texts in real time. This app is currently used by around one hundred municipalities. There is a close relationship with the local territory, but this is not the only area where public bodies are taking advantage of the project. During the 2016 earthquake, affecting Central Italy, the app turned into a vital communication channel for many of the affected municipalities. Every day the mayor of Amatrice sent a voice message to citizens by means of “ComunicaCity”, talking about what he had done during the day. The earthquake destroyed a territory and created a void, which the institutions were in danger of sinking into. The cooperative’s project created new links between citizens and administrations, a means of contact that renews a natural bond, finally offering innovative and effective responses to real needs.
