Città della Ceramica
The symbol of the industrial archaeology of Civita Castellana, the complex of the former Ceramica Marcantoni, has been transformed: not just a museum but a public place for cultural events. All this was possible thanks to the funds that Regione Lazio has provided for with a special public notice for the development of cultural structures in the regional territory.
The municipal exhibition space boasts three main venues: an entrance of about 70 square meters, one of about 160 square meters, and finally a room of another 140 square meters where the old kiln was preserved and restored by the Marcantoni factory.
The Museum is a milestone for ceramic lovers, exhibiting numerous rare pieces of the last two centuries, and, in particular, revamping the fundamental stages of the development of this art: from a first phase of the 800's to the industrialized production. in the sixties and seventies of the last century. The collection is so rich and varied that it can also boast a collection of work objects and tools, including a gorgeous original lathe. To frame the objects and artefacts on display we find an interesting series of vintage photos taken in the factories of the territory.
In the museum there are teaching activities and labs related to history, knowledge and traditions, temporary exhibitions and other cultural activities.
