"I do not like the simplifications, but if I were to find a definition for what I do, I would say I am simply an artist." In that adverb lays the whole philosophy and approach to life of Carmelo Battaglia. Photographer, designer, illustrator, but also film makers, Carmelo operates on all the image fields.

Born in a small town on Aspromonte in Calabria, he moved to Rome for almost twenty years, driven by the "charm of living in a big city." In Rome, after an initial and understandable period of acclimatization, he joined a training program which soon led him to develop his research into the image as well as to a degree in industrial design, A decision binding art with computer graphics.

According to Carmelo, the purpose of art and of the artist is "trying to be visionary." But not in the sense of seeing things that do not exist, but "to bring to light things that are unseen. The artist - Carmelo continues - must walk a step ahead of everyone else. " A concept that might seem elitist, but in reality is not. Indeed, if there is one thing that Carmelo rejects is the snobbery of some artistic circles, those more interested in "the commercial aspect rather than to the creative one".

This is seen in the progressive approach of Carmelo to the world of street art, "far from elitist logic, which does not need a review of critics in order to appear and does not suffer from self-centeredness, real disease of many artists and critics, who do own the movements of the first pure spirit of emulation ".

In this environment, however, Carmelo Battaglia wants to continue to have his say. Convinced that in the end the most substantial part and artistic creativity has the upper hand over the entire contour chatter. If they do not, "an experience of a couple of years abroad would do me good." But it is a hypothesis that casts out early, when talking about his future: "I would like to pursue a career as an art director." Leaving open, however, a port for a path as an independent artist.
