Cantieri d'Arte

“Was I tempted to move away? I was, I can't deny it. Then it occurred to me that I could bring my experience back here to the area to revitalize it. That was the real challenge”.

In his own way, Marco Trulli is an artist – a weaver of new territory whose warp and woof are art and social issues, and who has been working his loom with commitment and passion for ten years, intertwining the urgency of literacy, the creativity of thArt historian and cultural animatoe young, the promotion of culture and the collective imagination, the reading of the past and the understanding of the present. The texture of the fabric, where art and culture are vital for facing the momentous challenge of immigration through involvement and inclusion, is defined by sharing. And young people are the key. The Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, the artist residencies and the Librimmaginari illustration festival are the bridge between the “outside” world and the local area, which remains the initiative's primary target. Where, thanks to Cantieri d’Arte (Shipyards of Art) – an educational project, workshop and shared space - art lives, speaks, interprets and raises awareness. Where involvement creates community, and community becomes a project, generating another community and a new project. Where innovation doesn't mean technology for its own sake but a dialogue with the past and a return to traditional techniques to create new skills and competences through continuous osmosis.

The stakes? Marco and his co-workers, all in their thirties and with a shared generational background and approach, are in no doubt: a new vision of the local area. Active, dynamic and vital, and involving even the most outlying parts. And winning this gamble means knowing how to read and listen to it, searching for things that might create short circuits of the imagination, identifying metaphors able to describe it, working together, building and creating culture for all. Without exception.
