Bibliomakers, the so-called space, has been equipped with digital manufacturing tools, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, cutting plotters, welders; it’s a new center for creativity at the service of citizenship. The library transforms a factory of ideas into a real place of “doing”. In Germany - for example in the Cologne Municipal Library which is a project partner - for many years now in the libraries users can find and learn how to use digital manufacturing tools such as 3d printers and laser cutters.
For Bibliomakers we took advantage of the experience of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, whose FabLab in Rome, within the Gymnasium of Innovation, has quickly become a place of innovation and exchange, attended daily by an important community of makers, artists, professionals and young people of all ages.
The Foundation deals with the space of the library Fabrizio Giovenale, both by providing assistance to users who want to use the equipment and by designing and managing laboratories for families and school groups. The Goethe-Institut, as part of its Creativity 4.0 project and thanks to the long collaboration with the Libraries of Rome, has committed itself to financing the startup of the new Makerspace, in addition to its maintenance for the coming months. The objective shared with the project partners is to create a prototype to be replicated in other libraries or public spaces. Thanks to the collaboration with the Book Forum, some courses have been opened to teachers and librarians.
