Atelier del Granaio

A few steps from the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, in the historic and lively Rione Monti, in the center of Rome, in a place that speaks through the works within its historical and suggestive walls, there is the Atelier del Granaio which is inspired by the concept of affordable art, a concept still very little known in Italy. The Atelier del Granaio was born in 2015 with the idea of creating spaces for meeting and dialogue, transforming them through art.

Taking inspiration from a renewed demand for conviviality and a deep need for culture, the idea of the Atelier del Granaio was born. The initiative had the fundamental necessary mutual support of the artists, who are the first promoters of art. In fact, all the artists exhibit in the Santa Prassede hotel where you can experience a stay in art and creativity and sleep in an author's room.

In 1999, when Will Ramsay ran the first fair in London, he completely transformed the model of traditional art fairs with his fun and friendly approach: the introduction of the price cap and the obligation to include it in the captions of the works on display, allowing visitors to immediately understand what the works they could afford were. The aim was to make contemporary art accessible to all and demonstrate that it was not necessary to be a millionaire art expert to appreciate and buy contemporary art.

Will Ramsay's first adventure, which he founded Affordable Art Fair there, was the opening, in 1996, of the art gallery, still active today, Will's Art Warehouse in south-west London. The gallery has helped to fill the gap between the growing curiosity of the public for contemporary art and the closing attitude that sometimes this world presents. The positive response led Will to take the next step, with the opening, three years later, of the first Affordable Art Fair in Battersea Park, which was attended by over 10,000 visitors. In Rome, this void has been filled by the Atelier del Granaio: a multisensory experience not to be missed.
