Accademia costume e moda
Founded in 1964 by Rosana Pistolese, the Costume and Fashion Academy has for over 50 years been an institute of excellence for the training of professionals in the sector. Many of her former students today play important roles in the industry: from creative directors to entrepreneurs, from product managers to fashion editors. The numbers are clear: the start-up rate for this fashion university is above 85%. A success obtained above all thanks to the collaboration from the first year of studies between the institute and the fashion houses, obtained thanks to the talent of the founder: Rosana Pistolese.
Costume designer for the theater, designer of high fashion, but also writer of fashion and costume, over the years she has signed the costumes of the film Lulu, where she also acted Mastroianni, has created the costumes for entire theatrical seasons of the La Cometa Theater and has designed the models for some of the most famous fashion houses of the time, such as the Sorelle Fontana, Fernanda Gattinoni, Fabiani and many others. It was in October '64 that she decided to found a school and summoning the director Ottavio Spadaro, Dario Cecchi, painter and writer and the art historian Nello Ponente to create the Costume and Fashion Academy.
Since then, this place has become more than a school, but a research laboratory to participate, communicate, create: a reference point in Italy and in the world for training in fashion, to answer the question of many young people who wish to develop their own creative identity, acquiring cultural and research skills, design and prototyping, and product development, so as to operate promptly and consciously in the world of work.
The originality of the institution lies in the particular type of studies that combines theoretical and technical teachings. The constant effort to achieve an effective balance between theory and practice generates the structure of a place where experimentation and research are an integral part of the educational program. The Academy collaborates with more than 80 companies on the supply chain and fashion house side and has grown in recent years also thanks to the great generosity that these companies have towards young talents.
Among the 15 best fashion schools in the world according to Business of Fashion and first in Italy, the Academy is one of the Italian excellence in high fashion. The school offers, after a first initial selection, three-year, master's courses, intensive courses, masters, summer courses. The level of graduates is truly remarkable, with nothing to send to established stylists, results obtained thanks to a teaching staff that brings together the sector's excellences.
